NADr Merci Kusel completed her medical training in Singapore and relocated to Perth, Western Australia where she has been a general practitioner for over 30 years. She also trained as a clinical epidemiologist and attained her doctoral degree at the University of Western Australia, where she explored the environmental causes of allergic diseases in children, gaining valuable insights into the patterns and causes of health conditions. This background fueled her curiosity about the rising prevalence of mental health issues, especially anxiety, stress, overwhelm, burnout, phobias, and addictions.
In her medical practice, she has first hand knowledge of how these conditions are increasingly impacting people's lives—often disguised as sleep problems, stress, overwhelm, recurrent infections, or dependencies—yet the underlying emotional struggles remain unaddressed. Her involvement with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Children’s Environmental Health and philanthropic work across Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and China revealed a striking contrast: higher rates of anxiety and depression are predominantly found in Western countries. Merci has found this perplexing, considering the hardships in the underprivileged and impoverished communities in these regions.
This paradox inspired her to explore the workings of the human mind through neuroscience, neurobiology, and psychoneuroimmunology. These fields of study describe the interactions between the brain and its effects on cognitive and behavioral function, thus, how our emotional states affect the functions of our nervous, endocrine and our immune systems,
We now understand so much more about the mechanistic nature of the human mind. Our thoughts, feelings and behavior are rooted in our brain where a complex network of cells receive information from our internal and external environment. We then transform this information into our thoughts or experience of ourselves, our external environment and our relationships.
Our thoughts drive the way we feel about ourselves, our behaviour, motivation and actions.
We develop and hold on to many beliefs that were formed in our early life. Many of these beliefs were not even ours but acquired from family members, teachers, friends and the environment in which we were brought up in.
By uncovering these, you will understand how the beliefs you have formed in childhood or early life have continued to affect your thoughts, your behavior and actions.
Using advanced techniques including hypnotherapy, Havening, NLP, EFT and gaining insights from the extensive literature, Merci guides her clients to uncover and reprogramme the limiting beliefs and emotional patterns stored in their subconscious minds. Many of these beliefs trace back to early childhood influences and traumas, shaping our reactions and habits without us ever realizing it.
Merci’s goal is to help her clients dissolve stress, overcome fears, break free from old patterns, and restore inner balance. Life’s demands can be overwhelming, but with a deeper understanding of your mind-body connection and with the use of effective tools, you can reclaim your life and experience genuine relief.
